How to Clean Rubber Floors for Kennels and Stalls
How to Clean and Maintain Rubber Flooring
Regular maintenance cleaning is recommended for all kennel and stall flooring. Removal of all surface dirt and debris by vacuuming, sweeping and or using a damp sponge mop is the first step. Commercial grade electric floor scrubber-extractor is highly recommended for large high traffic areas. After the dirt and debris has been removed the flooring should be cleaned with a cleaner/degreaser (mixed at the manufacturer’s instructions) Any excess solids should be removed with a sponge mop or electric floor scrubber-extractor. The following tools are not recommended when cleaning rubber floors: the use of a squeegee, pressure washer, spraying with a hose, or otherwise cause flooding on the floor.
Disinfecting Kennel Floors and Stall Floors
The health and safety for both humans and animals is always a top priority. Kennel floors should be disinfected at least once a month and after clean up of any spots or spills. With any disinfected solution, such as Cleanbreak Disinfectant, it is always suggested to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for preparation of the solution. After the solution is prepared, lightly mist all of the surfaces and allow the solution to fully dry. If applying using a soft sponge mop it is important to sponge mop a second time with only clean water and allow to fully dry before use. Do not use strong chemical cleaners such as ammonia, bleach, solvents or any petroleum-based products as they can cause damage to the flooring.
Spot and Spill Cleaning
Spills and spots are inevitable, whether it is dirty paw prints or accidents from four legged friends, proper clean up should be routine. Remove any liquid with a clean, dry lint free cloth or a soft damp sponge mop. After the liquid and solids have been removed clean the affected area with Cleanbreak Cleaner/Degreaser. Disinfected can be applied as needed once the area has been thoroughly cleaned. Stall mats can be hosed down with a regular utility/garden hose to remove any spots or spills.
Keep in mind it is strongly discouraged from using any strong chemical cleaners. The use of improper undiluted cleaners and disinfectants can cause permanent damage to the urethane binder holding the rubber flooring together.
